JOHN KINCAID born about 1804 in VA, died 10 Mar 1888 in Boone Co IN m Mary Shotts

Son of Thomas Kincaid and Elizabeth Murdock.

Proven by:

Bible record taken from “Boone County Roots, Lebanon Indiana Vol 3 Issue 3, January 1988”. Gives wife's name as Mary Shotts. Bible record also shows John’s death date as 10 Mar 1888, but also shows his birth year as 1797. Boone County could not provide a death certificate for either one of these folks.

Elizabeth MURDOCH was born about 1785 in Virginia. She died in Van Buren Co., Iowa 15 may 1851 while visiting Her Daughter Elizabeth FRAZIER; Her estate was probated in Boone Co. Ind.

Here is the court order from Boone Co, IN May term 1854. "In the matter of the estate of Elizabeth Kincade, dec'd. Distribution to heirs. Comes now said Andrew Kincade and on proof to the court orally made, it is ordered that the money and notes found to be due is ordered to be distributed and paid to the following persons, heirs to said estate in equal proportions, viz James Kincade, Elizabeth Frazier, Thomas Kincade, John Kincade, Margaret Vangorder, Andrew Kincade, Sarah Whitecotton and William Kincade and upon calculation it is found that after paying expenses accrued since last term, there is $65.80 for distribution which will pay to each of said heirs, and the clerk of this court is ordered to make distribution accordingly by Oct. 11th, 1855.

Rec'd of Kise Clerk on an order from Madison G. Walker, guardian of the minor heirs of Thomas Kincade decd. $8.22 his share above my distributive share in above estate. signed James Kincaid, Wm. B. Kincaid, May 2, 1854, S.C. Doughtery, Judge."

[The son, Thomas, died in Feb 1846 in Madison Co, IN. His sons were James and Madison. The $8.22 distribution would come out right for 8 children of Elizabeth.]

John married Mary Shotts in either Hamilton or Adams Co Ohio or Madison Co Indiana. Their first child Elizabeth states she was born in Ohio, so they were probably married in Ohio. John’s sister Elizabeth Kincaid married a Thomas Frazier in Hamilton Co on 23 Jan 1823. His sister Margaret Kincaid married Alexander Van Gorder on 21July 1825 in Hamilton Co Ohio. There is a Thomas Kincaid in the 1820 Adams Co Ohio census, which was formed from Hamilton County. Both of the marriages are witnessed by Moses Whitecotton who married Sarah Kincaid, their sister Per census data, Mary was born about 1802 in Ohio and died sometime after 1888 as she is found in the 1880 census with John.

Bureau of Land Management land grant Boone Co., IN issued 9/18/1838 to John Kincaid. The land grant states that he was from Madison County, Indiana. This information was secured from the on line site of the Bureau of Land Management. “John Kincaid, of Madison County Indiana”. Certificate #32608. Township 18-N, Range 2W, section 11.
